Don Mateo Pechuga

Michoacán

Don Mateo Pechuga is a mezcal produced from Cupreata agave, featuring a distillation process that incorporates turkey breast, deer meat, and iguana. The spirit presents earthy agave notes with spicy undertones and a distinct meatiness that varies by lot. Aromas range from dried fruits and roasted agave to lactic hints of fruit punch. The palate offers medium viscosity with papaya, pine wood, and smoked salted jerky flavors. While some batches highlight robust spice and game notes, others lean toward tropical fruitiness with a salty finish. This expression showcases the unique profile of Cupreata agave within the Pechuga category.

Don Mateo de la Sierra

About the Brand

Mezcal Don Mateo de la Sierra is run by maestro Emilio Vieyra. Don Mateo was Emilio’s grandfather. He migrated from Guanajuato to Michoacán in 1840, and began producing mezcal. Given that Don Emilio represents his family’s sixth generation of maestro vinatero, what better ambassador of the spirit of Michoacán. Coming from Michoacán gives their mezcals a very different character and taste from those made in Oaxaca or elsewhere in Mexico.
