Padre Azul Extra Añejo is a tequila aged for at least three years in oak barrels. Tequila, protected by Mexican law since 1974, must be made from Agave tequilana Weber variedad azul. Production is restricted to Jalisco and specific municipalities in four other states. This Extra Añejo category, established in 2006, represents the longest aging period for tequila. It allows for significant barrel influence within vessels under 600 liters. This label belongs to that specific aged classification of the spirit.
