El Tinieblo Mezcal

About the Brand

El Tinieblo is a sustainability-first artisanal mezcal brand and a unique brand in that they are completely self-reliant. Rancho El Tinieblo is a 9,000 acre farm in the state of Tamaulipas where El Tinieblo grows their agave with no pesticides or insecticides. For every agave harvested, El Tinieblo plants 25 new agaves. The mezcal is produced using traditional methods and then bottled in 100% recycled glass hand-blown bottles. The ranch has been producing spirits since 1865 and has, for the most part, remained unchanged. In 1998, it came under the ownership of Alfredo Perez Salinas and the spirits began being marketed under the new brand and the Tinieblo name. The one major change that occurred was the introduction of exotic African animals such as zebras, wildebeest, oryx, water buffalo and watusi, who now roam the ranch. In 2019, the brand raised money via the StartEngine platform at a $7.5 million pre-money valuation.
