La Higuera Texanum

Chihuahua

La Higuera Texanum is a Joven sotol from Texas. The nose presents simple sotol character that gains complexity with air, revealing pink peppercorn and fino sherry notes. Subtle barbecue smoke mingles with earthy sweetness, while mild mushroom and ground corn aromas emerge alongside stinky vegetable hints. The palate offers good texture with earth, red and white peppercorn, dried mint, and basil. Black pepper heavy beef jerky flavors lead to a finish featuring clay, garlic-adjacent vegetal notes, button mushroom savoryness, dark chocolate, and hazelnuts. The finish retains pool water touches with good length and sweetness.

La Higuera

About the Brand

La Higuera is a project that set out with the intention of showcasing the diversity in flavor that different sotol species can give us. This is clear when tasting the core lineup alongside each other which are all made by 3rd generation Maestro Sotolero Don Gerardo Ruelas. In addition to exploring sotol types, La Higuera is exploring sotol spirits beyond the D.O. La Higuera has special releases from Puebla, Oaxaca, and Sonora which expands into the broad tapestry of terrior, maker, production, and variety. These special releases are produced in tiny batches and sell out quickly.
