Leyendas Espadin (Oaxaca) is a joven mezcal from Oaxaca. It uses Angustifolia agave and carries NOM-O117X. Producer Leonardo Hernandez distills it in copper stills. Aromas include sour candies, fresh cut grass, and sweet roasted agave without smoke. The palate offers candid grass, minerals, clay, and dark sugar. Some batches show minty brightness or saline qualities with a tannic finish. Citrus and pepper notes appear in certain lots too. The profile varies between sips, ranging from watery to sweet and salty.

Olfactory Phase
Aromatic profile with a combination of citrus, fruity, herbal and sweet notes. Aromas of pineapple, tangerine and grapefruit stand out, accompanied by apple yellow, mint and cinnamon, along with a sweet caramel note. The intensity aromatic is average, as is the alcoholic sensation.

Mezcal de Leyendas (previously labeled as Mezcales de Leyenda) believes they can improve some of the most marginalized communities in Mexico. They implement the best fair trade practices where they work, and they have many efforts in agave sustainability. Their mezcals come from the different mezcal-producing states. They also have some special edition, small-batch mezcals. The brand also releases the Pelotón de la Muerte line of mezcals. In 2021, the brand (under Artisanal Distillates, LLC) raised money via the StartEngine platform at a $32.7 million pre-money valuation.
